Join us June 27 for a Klamath Basin field trip
to see Applegate’s milkvetch

Trip Leaders: Sarah Malaby and Steve Sheehy

The Klamath Basin chapter invites you to a special field trip on June 27 to visit three regional populations of Applegate’s milkvetch (Astragalus applegatei), a rare endemic plant known only from Klamath Falls and a few nearby sites. We will look at associated plants and trip leaders will discuss habitat and management.

Stops will include The Nature Conservancy’s Ewauna Flat Preserve, the OC&E Trail parking area, and the Collins property. Participants who join the visit to Ewauna Flat will need to sign a release form for The Nature Conservancy; waiver forms will be available on the day of the event.

For additional information about Applegate's milkvetch, check out the "Rare Plant Summary" on the OregonFlora website.

Participants should prepare for the expected weather. The extended forecast suggests temperatures in the low 70’s. Wear comfortable foot ware appropriate for walking off-trail or off-road.

Trip Leaders: Sarah Malaby is a retired US Forest Service botanist and contributor and editor of "Common Plants of the Upper Klamath Basin."

Chapter member Steve Sheehy has been active in the management of the Nature Conservancy preserve and has done astragalus monitoring.
