We will be meeting Monday, April 7 at 6 pm at the Klamath Museum (back entrance). 1451 Main Street, Klamath Falls.

We won't have a formal presentation. We will discuss a possible 'Naturescaping Workshop' at the end of April and the May 17th native plant sale.

Also - it's Native Plant Appreciation Month! We'll have poster available at the meeting.

We will also discuss upcoming options for field trips this summer.

This would be a great time to attend and provide input on the workshop, plants of interest to you, and field trip options.

CANCELLED - Monthly meeting of the Klamath Basin Chapter - NPSO

Due to the continuing winter storm and unsafe travel conditions, and after consultation with others, we have opted to cancel tonight's meeting.

We hope to reschedule for next Monday, but that will depend on room availability.

Stay safe!

Follow-up on Monday's Klamath River Dam Removal Presentation

We were unable to pull off the hoped-for Zoom connection during Rob Roninger's Monday presentation about the Dam Removal Project. Rob presented two overview videos then spoke about the Bureau of Land Management's role in revegetation efforts in the footprint of the former pool behind the John C. Boyle Dam site.

The videos are available on YouTube.

World's biggest dam removal project changing a California river

Provides a brief overview of the historical events resulting in dam removal and the views of different community members opposed to, and supportive of, their removal.

Replanting the Reservoirs, Year One - Klamath River Restoration

The video chronicles the first year of revegetation following the removal of the four dams along the Klamath River, part of the world’s largest salmon restoration project. (You'll need to 'skip' the ads)

Public Presentation and Monthly meeting of the Klamath Basin Chapter - NPSO

The Klamath Basin Chapter will host a public presentation about the Klamath River Dam Removal Project, focusing on the John C. Boyle Project Area in Oregon. The presentation will take place in the large meeting room at the rear of the Klamath County Museum on Monday, January 6, 2025, at 6 p.m. The presenter, Robert Roninger, is a Fish Biologist with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Lakeview District, Klamath Falls Field Office (KFFO).

The BLM - Klamath Falls Field Office has acted as a contributor to, and partner in, the recent Klamath Dam Removal Project. The KFFO focused on plan development, oversight and monitoring of the John C. Boyle (JCB) Project Area in Oregon. The KFFO has worked closely with the Klamath River Renewal Corporation, McMillen, Kiewit, Resource Environmental Solutions (RES) LLC, AECOM and Camas Environmental Professionals, as well as with Tribes, Federal and State agencies.

Kiewit completed their part of the JCB Project area work, de-mobilized in September 2024, and RES is diligently working on restoration efforts currently. KFFO specialists will continue to monitor restoration efforts and fish/wildlife populations, and assist RES, Agencies and Tribes with other duties as needed for the following several years.

The Chapter will conduct a short member meeting after the presentation.

---------------------

In response to requests, we'll attempt a Zoom option for tonight's meeting. This has been an expedited effort, so apologies in advance if Murphy's law kicks in.

Dan Hawkes is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

The new website for the Native Plant Society of Oregon (NPSO) is up!

NPSO has totally updated their website. It's an impressive upgrade, worth your time exploring.

You'll find information about the other Chapters around the state, a comprehensive calendar of events occurring state-wide, an expansive collection of websites (see 'Resources'), access to past copies of the Bulletin of the Native Plant Society of Oregon and Kalmiopsis, the journal of NPSO, and reviews of related books.

That's just a sampling of the upgrade. With fall advancing quickly, you'll have time over the next few months to explore the website and get ready for next season's flush of plants. (click on image below to be redirected to the NPSO page)
